It's Always Five O'Clock in Everglades City

With the beautiful weather we get here in winter and spring, it's always time for a cold beer in Everglades City especially in between the morning and afternoon fishing trip or anytime you are in the mood for stone crab claws.

When you're not in the mood for a beer, you can enjoy the plethora of osprey which nest throughout the area.

Until next time infidels. Adios, I'm a ghost!

Give me Stone Crabs and Beer for Lunch Everyday of the Year

Yes infidels, spent Saturday afternoon at City Seafood in Everglades City to enjoy the world's best stone crabs along with a nice cold one and the scenery which is the 10,000 islands.

Folks, most places offering stone crabs claws are offering you previously frozen or ones that are a few days old. Here, you're getting them fresh. They come in at night, they cook 'em and ice 'em and they're ready for eating the next morning. Got those collossal claws for $28/pound. 2-3 a pound that will fill you up. Better hurry cause they'll be shutting down for the summer in a few weeks. You'll find it off of Begonia which is off of SR 29, south of the Trail. In fact, this week, I'll try to post images from the area.

Running Up That Hill

Went by Greynolds Park in North Miami Beach today fellow infidels. This was a park that as a young child I used to love because it had this hill with a coral fort built atop a 20 foot hill. As a youngin, the hill seemed huge. We'd climb to the top and roll down the hill. As I've returned as an adult, it does not seem so high, but my son loved it and run and and down that hill. Here's an image of the famous fort . . .

Running up that hill - by Kate Bush

Is there so much hate for the ones we love?
Tell me, we both matter, dont we?
You, its you and me.
Its you and me wont be unhappy.

And if I only could,
Id make a deal with god,
And Id get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
Be running up that building,
Say, if I only could, oh...

You,
Its you and me,
Its you and me wont be unhappy.

Cmon, baby, cmon darling,
Let me steal this moment from you now.
Cmon, angel, cmon, cmon, darling,
Lets exchange the experience, oh...

And if I only could,
Id make a deal with god,
And Id get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
With no problems.

Nature Photographers in the Field

The Guru of Avian Photography, Art Morris (immediate foreground with large 500 4.0L lens) and others furing the instructional in the field tour at Anhinga Trail, Everglades National Park, last February. His book, the Art of Bird Photography (now in vol. 2), was perhaps the most influential book in my development as a photographer. You can check out Artie's site here.

Been Fishin' And Now, Back to Work

Yes Infidels, spent the other day fishing the waters of 10,000 Islands in the Florida Everglades with Capt. Chas Wright of Chokoloskee Charters. Got macked big time. Ended up with 4 nice sized ones which I had to cook right away as the cap'n says that if you don't cook 'em within 24 hours, they get blech. So I cooked them right quick on watersoaked cedar planks to give them a nice smoky flavor. Had leftovers and made smoked fish dip out of them. The fish were biting pretty good. Nearly landed a 35 pound cobia, but the wanker broke the line as it was near the boat's net. Took Junior with me and he caught his first fish, a blue fish. He was thrilled. It was also his first time on a boat, so it was like a ride for him. He loved the bumps of the choppy waters of the Gulf. He had a grin from ear to ear. So I reckon I now have a new fishin' partner. He's still too young for beer though.

Got some cool shots of osprey out there too. Will post those later. And now, back to the grind. See ya later infidels.

Under the Bridge

It all happens under the bridge infidels. Not just any bridge, this is the MaCarthur causeway which leads you from City of Miami to Miami Beach and ultimatley to the intracoastal waterway, South Beach and the Atlantic Ocean. All the photos of the skyline are taken from under this bridge at Watson Island. At night it is most righteous. This image is an HDR composite of 5 different exposures. I'm outta here. See you out in the field.

Howdy infidels. Great weekend shooting at Wakodahatchee where I even got a pic of this parrothead who was the pet of one of the photographers.

Hitting the glades again this weekend so let's see what mother nature brings...

On a side note, heard this song from this model now singer called Tila Tequilla called "I love you" ... such intellectual lyrics, I must share them with you. Dylan Thomas would be proud.

You know...I just wanna let you know...that I never felt this way about anybody else...I...I...I think I love you...so don't think I'm crazy when I tell you this...but if you ever hurt me, I'll fucking kill you!

Chorus:
Chorus:
You better go down when you get with me
You better realize that I'm what you need
You better get here before I count to 3
You better do Right I'll fuck you up!!

VERSE 1:
You never thought, that a bitch like me, would fuck you up
If you cannot please so you betta bow down and get on your kneees, pull the diamonds out, gimme what I need.

Hold up! Do you see me laughing? You think that it's a joke Imma start harassing, all your little hoes that be trying to pass here, you better tell them imma kick they ass in!

Cuz I'm the crazy bitch that's runnin' tha game
Cuz I'm the crazy bitch that's callin ya name
Cuz I'm the crazy bitch I ain't got no shame
I will Fuck you up!!

Chorus:
You better go down when you get with me
You better realize that I'm what you need
You better get here before I count to 3
You better do Right I'll fuck you up!!

Give 'Em Enough Fruit

Shot of the produce at Robert is Here in Florida City, while on break from an Everglades Avian shoot. Line was out the door for the milk shakes (I was craving mamay). Couldn't wait all day, so I took photos of fruits and veggies. So here you have it. I close with some words from the great music icon, Brian Wilson:

I'm gonna be round my vegetables
I'm gonna chow down my vegetables
I love you most of all
My favorite vege-table

If you brought a big brown bag of them home
I'd jump up and down and hope you'd toss me a carrot

I'm gonna keep well my vegetables
Cart off and sell my vegetables
I love you most of all
My favorite vege-table
Oh oh taba vega vegel

I tried to kick the ball but my tenny flew right off
I'm red as a beet 'cause I'm so embarassed

I know that you'll feel better
When you send us in
Your letter an'
Tell us the name of your
Your favorite vege-table

I know that you'll feel better
When you send us in
Your letter an'
Tell us the name of your
Your favorite vege-table

Momentary Lapse of Reason - Nature Morte Vivante

Since I primarily shoot nature, I thought I'd take a detour and shoot images known as nature mort vivant or still life images. Here is one on Lincoln Road....
If one looks hard enough, there is art in everything one sees and passes on a daily basis; subjects deemed mundane commercialism. Lot's of strange images out there. Makes you appreciate the natural world even more.
Wind it Up.

Monday in the City

Greetings infidels. Tiring weekend. Went shooting throughout the urban and wacko areas of the City as well as the serene wetland areas. Hadn't done any shots of the skyline since I've gone digital so this weekend was a good time as any. Here ya go!
See ya in the field!

Have a Great Weekend Infidels

Been swamped. Have a great weekend.

While the City Slept I Was Greeted to the Beauty of an Everglades Sunrise

Most infidels I know are asleep in their beds at 6:15 a.m. and not in the heart of the swamp like I was last Saturday. Usually 7:00 a.m. is my time of arrival in the Glades for nature work. But it is amazing what getting there one hour earlier will bring. This usually mundane landscape during the day takes on a life of its own at dawn and especially in the minutes before sunrise. As here, even the typically ugly Turkey Buzzard looks majestic perched above the waters of Taylor Slough in Everglades National Park. The shot was taken from the easternmost boardwalk of the Anhinga Trail. I saw, but did not get the shot in time a bunch of river otters that morning. Man they were big. The mist added a sense of eerieness over the landscape that morning and I am now determined to get up at 4:30 a.m. more often to make it there for the light show. As Marjorie Stoneman Douglas remarked, "There are no other Everglades in the world. They are, they have always been, one of the unique regions of the earth; remote, never wholly known. Nothing anywhere else is like them...." Until you see the Glades in the light of an early dawn, you've truly never seen it. The birds must take sights like this for granted each morning, but then again, perhaps they know the secret to the universe and laugh at our perpetual quest fto achieve deliverance from our lack of understanding the unknown.
In closing friends, I came upon a new song on Itunes by the great Country singer, Martina McBride and as I've stated previously, once again shows that if one really wants to hear quality music and quality lyrics, they should look towards the Country charts. Rather than the inane lyrics of Fergie and Nelly and Beyonce, here are some lyrics that make you think for a change:
-------------------------------
Anyway
You can spend your whole life building something from nothing
One storm can come and blow it all away
Build it anyway
You can chase a dream that seems so out of reach and you know it might not ever come your way
Dream it anyway

God is great, but sometimes life ain't good
And when I pray it doesn't always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway, I do it anyway

This world's gone crazy and it's hard to believe that tomorrow will be better than today
Believe it anyway
You can love someone with all your heart, for all the right reasons, and in a moment they can choose to walk away
Love 'em anyway

You can pour your soul out singing a song you believe in that tomorrow they'll forget you ever sang
Sing it anyway, sing it anyway
I sing, I dream, I love, anyway
-------------------------------------
See you in the swamp infidels
